Rifle<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any safe airgun, of any configuration, shooting a single pellet per discharge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any airgun declared unsafe to people and\/or property, including targets, by the match director, will be barred from use in the match.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In the event of a broken airgun, the Match Director may allow repairs to be done without penalty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a replacement airgun can be found, the competitor may continue with the approval of the Match Director.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Sights<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Any<\/strong> form of sighting system may be used in all Divisions, subject to the provisions in subsection <strong>B<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Turret clicking, all types of reticles, and focusing (for a sharp image and range finding) are specifically allowed in all Divisions, <strong>except the Hunter Division<\/strong>, <strong>where turret clicking is not allowed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Hunter Division Optical Sights<\/strong> may not be set higher than <strong>sixteen <\/strong>(<strong>16x<\/strong>) times magnification at any time in the Hunter Division.\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Focusing <\/strong>(for a sharper image) is allowed, however <strong>all distance markings<\/strong> must be <strong>covered <\/strong>in the Hunter Division.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Ammunition<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any design of pellet that is completely constructed of lead, zinc, or their alloys, may be used, in 0.177, 0.20 or 0.22 calibre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Slugs are not permitted<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Shooting Equipment and Accessories<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bum bags <\/strong>and<strong> cushions<\/strong> are allowed to be used by <strong>all competitors<\/strong>, provided they are not higher than <strong>6\u201d (15cm)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>All competitors<\/strong> may use a <strong>shooting mat<\/strong> to keep their clothes from getting dirty or wet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Portable seats<\/strong>, which are <strong>18\u201d<\/strong> <strong>(46cm)<\/strong> or less in height, are allowed in the <strong>Open<\/strong> and <strong>Hunter<\/strong> Divisions, provided that they do not have a backrest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Portable seats<\/strong> will be allowed in the <strong>WFTF<\/strong> Division, provided they are <strong>not higher<\/strong> than <strong>6\u201d (15cm)<\/strong> and do not have a backrest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Portable seats may Not be used as a Support in Any Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Straps or harnesses<\/strong>, that improve a shooter\u2019s position, will be allowed in only in the Open Division. (These will not be allowed in the WFTF or Hunter Divisions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kneepads <\/strong>and<strong> elbow pads<\/strong> are allowed in the <strong>Open<\/strong> and <strong>WFTF<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Kneepads and elbow pads with a maximum thickness of one inch (1.0\u201d) are allowed in the Hunter Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Thigh rests<\/strong> are <strong>Only <\/strong>allowed in the <strong>Open <\/strong>Division.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Knee risers<\/strong> (<strong>separate <\/strong>and\/or<strong> adjustable<\/strong>)are allowed in the <strong>Open<\/strong> and <strong>WFTF<\/strong> Divisions, only. These will <strong>not <\/strong>be allowed in the <strong>Hunter<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Traditional rifle slings<\/strong> will be allowed in <strong>all<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Traditional rifle slings have two attachment points on an airgun.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Single point rifle slings<\/strong> are allowed in the <strong>Open<\/strong> and <strong>WFTF<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Single point rifle slings will not be allowed in the Hunter Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bi-pods, crossed sticks, and mono-pods will be allowed in the <strong>Open<\/strong> Division, only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>These will not be allowed in the <strong>WFTF<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mono-pods<strong> <\/strong>only, will be allowed in the <strong>Hunter<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Match style Butt Hooks <\/strong>will be allowed in the <strong>Open<\/strong> and <strong>WFTF<\/strong> Divisions, only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Adjustable Butt Pads\/Plates<\/strong> and<strong> adjustable cheek pieces<\/strong> will be allowed in all Divisions, with some limitations outlined in the hunter division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A<strong> butt hook<\/strong> will <strong>not <\/strong>be allowed in the <strong>Hunter<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Rifle mounted; A hit will be awarded when the target falls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Any movement of the kill zone paddle, which does <strong>not result<\/strong> in the target face plate <strong>falling<\/strong>, will be recorded as a \u201c<strong>miss<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>For the <strong>Hunter<\/strong> <strong>Division<\/strong>, two (2) points will be scored for a knockdown, one (1) point for a hit on the target, and a zero (0) for a complete \u201cmiss\u201d of the target.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A discharge into the ground, <strong>without first announcing<\/strong> one\u2019s intention to deliberately discharge the gun in such a fashion, shall be recorded as a \u201c<strong>miss<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a gun discharges due to a <strong>malfunction <\/strong>of the gun, the shooter will <strong>complete <\/strong>the <strong>lane<\/strong>, but the <strong>incident <\/strong>will be <strong>recorded <\/strong>and reported to the match director, who will decide on how to score the lane.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A shot taken is defined by air going down the barrel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<a>Shooting Position<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any shooting position is allowed, but some lanes may be set up for a forced position, such as <strong>standing<\/strong>, <strong>kneeling<\/strong>, or <strong>prone<\/strong>. <strong>Bum bags<\/strong>, <strong>cushions<\/strong>, and <strong>shooting mats<\/strong> may be used to protect the shooters clothing from the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kneeling<\/strong> shall be defined as one knee and both feet in contact with the ground. The airgun will be supported by the shooter and by no other means, other than <strong>traditional rifle slings<\/strong> or <strong>single point rifle slings<\/strong>, which may be used according to Division rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The leading hand supports the gun and may not be supported in any way. A <strong>bum bag<\/strong> or <strong>cushion<\/strong> may be used as a support for the kneeling leg and ankle and\/or to protect the knee from the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is also a safety issue to protect the shooter\u2019s knee from stones or sharp objects that may be in the ground. A <strong>shooting mat<\/strong> may be used for the same purpose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Standing<\/strong> shall be defined as standing upright. The airgun will be supported by the shooter and by no other means, other than <strong>traditional rifle slings<\/strong> or <strong>single point rifle slings<\/strong>, which may be used according to Division rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Prone <\/strong>shall be defined as the shooter lying on the ground. The airgun will be supported by the shooter and by no other means, other than <strong>traditional rifle slings<\/strong> or <strong>single point rifle slings<\/strong>, which may be used in accordance with Division rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>No support<\/strong> may be used from the <strong>ground <\/strong>to the shooter or rifle, unless allowed in the Division rules. The shooter <strong>may <\/strong>use a <strong>shooting<\/strong> <strong>mat <\/strong>to protect their clothing from getting dirty or wet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If a shooter is <strong>unable to take a forced shooting<\/strong> position for any valid reason, the Match Director may allow the shots to be taken from any other forced position in lieu of requirement, or if unable to do so, from their normal shooting position, with no penalty given the shooter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When a shooter is not in a forced position, <strong>natural support may <\/strong>be <strong>gained <\/strong>from the course, such as resting on logs or branches at the shooting position, unless <strong>Division rules prohibit <\/strong>its use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Forced position shots shall <strong>not <\/strong>account for <strong>more <\/strong>than <strong>20<sup>%<\/sup><\/strong> of the course of fire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<a>Disputed Scores<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Any challenge to a target, must be recorded on the score sheet, before leaving that lane.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Penalties<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Disqualification from a <strong>match<\/strong> includes and is not limited to:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a <strong>deliberate <\/strong>infraction of the Shoot Rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unsafe gun handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unsafe practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>unsportsmanlike conduct<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or any form of <strong>cheating<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Target Sequence<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The <strong>Match Director <\/strong>may <strong>designate <\/strong>a <strong>sequence <\/strong>for shooting targets, by number, shooting left to right, nearest to farthest, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If there are multiple targets on a lane, the <strong>shooter <\/strong>must <strong>declare <\/strong>the <strong>order <\/strong>in which he\/she is planning to shoot them, if there is <strong>no suggested order<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If it is <strong>not clear <\/strong>from the shooter\u2019s position which target is near, far, left, or right, the <strong>shooter must declare <\/strong>the <strong>shooting order <\/strong>they will use before beginning the shot sequence on the target they will engage first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Once order is understood, a <strong>target shot out <\/strong>of <strong>order <\/strong>will be recorded as a <strong>miss <\/strong>for the target that should have been shot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a>Time Per Shot<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol style=\"list-style-type:upper-alpha\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The Match Director <strong>may impose <\/strong>a <strong>time limit <\/strong>per lane or per target before a regular match begins or if a match is being unduly held up by an individual or group of shooters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Timers will be used at the <strong>CAFTA<\/strong> <strong>National Championship Match<\/strong>. Timing will be set at one (1) minute per shot in each lane plus one (1) minute preparation time. Any reticule is allowed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Single point rifle slings will not be permitted.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Match style butt hooks will not be allowed.<ol><li>Adjustable cheek pieces <strong>may <\/strong>be adjusted to fit the shooter.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>The <strong>length of pull<\/strong> may be adjusted to suit the shooter and a <strong>butt pad\/plate<\/strong> can be adjusted, vertically only, to suit the shooter.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>No adjustments will be made during the match.&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shooting jackets and gloves, <\/strong>specifically designed for match shooting are <strong>not allowed<\/strong>.\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A regular jacket and hunting type gloves may be worn.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Kneepads<\/strong> and <strong>elbow<\/strong> <strong>pads<\/strong> up to <strong>1\u201d thick<\/strong> may be used to protect the knee or arm and support the gun.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Handheld wind indicators will not allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Knee risers <\/strong>and<strong> thigh rests<\/strong>, either attached to the rifle, or held separately, will <strong>not <\/strong>be allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Straps<\/strong> and <strong>harnesses<\/strong> that improve the shooter\u2019s position will <strong>not <\/strong>be <strong>allowed<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Separate sighting or range finders systems will not be allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monopods <\/strong>are allowed provided they are <strong>not attached<\/strong> to the rifle in any way nor will they be driven into the ground.<ol><li>They will not have a surface that touches the gun larger than <strong>2\u201d by 3\u201d<\/strong> on the top when <strong>looking straight down<\/strong>, to rest the rifle on.<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>Only <strong>one flat<\/strong> surface or <strong>two flat <\/strong>surfaces that form a <strong>\u201cV\u201d may<\/strong> be used.<\/li><\/ol><ol><li>The monopod or stock will <strong>not <\/strong>have any additional <strong>attachments <\/strong>or <strong>modifications <\/strong>to it that form fit the monopod to the gun and give lateral or longitudinal support to the rifle, as if it was sitting on a bench or in a fitted notch or channel.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The base that touches the ground will <strong>not <\/strong>be <strong>larger <\/strong>than <strong>1-\u00bd\u201d<\/strong> in diameter or <strong>smaller <\/strong>than <strong>3\/4\u201d<\/strong> in diameter.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><a><\/a><a><\/a>World Championship Match<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Should CAFTA apply to the WFTF to host a World Championship match, the WFTF Core Rules will be used as the Shoot Rules for the Championship, augmented by CAFTA rules that are not in conflict with the Core Rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>World Safety rules will apply unless they conflict with the Hosting Club, in which case, the Hosting Clubs\u2019 safety rules will take priority overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airguns will follow the guidelines of the WFTF with the power to not exceed 12-foot pounds energy at the muzzle, with pellets that the competitor shoots in the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Matters that are not covered in the Core Rules will be covered by CAFTA rules, and for those matters not covered in all rules, the match Director\u2019s decision will be final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-thumbnail\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fieldtargetcanada.ca\/index.php\/ft-dates-current-season\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" src=\"https:\/\/fieldtargetcanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/CAFTALogo-Red-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Canadian Airgun Field Target\" class=\"wp-image-808\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">CAFTA Calendar<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>FT Rules and Classes for shooting field target in Canada.
