Definitions<\/a><\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Air Rifle<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
    \n
  1. Any safe airgun, of any configuration, shooting a single pellet per discharge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Any airgun declared unsafe to people and\/or property, including targets, by the match director, will be barred from use in the match.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. In the event of a broken airgun, the Match Director may allow repairs to be done without penalty.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. If a replacement airgun can be found, the competitor may continue with the approval of the Match Director.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Sights<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
      \n
    1. Any<\/strong> form of sighting system may be used in all Divisions, subject to the provisions in subsection B<\/strong>\n
        \n
      1. Turret clicking, all types of reticles, and focusing (for a sharp image and range finding) are specifically allowed in all Divisions, except the Hunter Division<\/strong>, where turret clicking is not allowed<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
      2. Hunter Division Optical Sights<\/strong> may not be set higher than sixteen <\/strong>(16x<\/strong>) times magnification at any time in the Hunter Division.\n
          \n
        1. Focusing <\/strong>(for a sharper image) is allowed, however all distance markings<\/strong> must be covered <\/strong>in the Hunter Division.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

          Ammunition<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
            \n
          1. Any design of pellet that is completely constructed of lead, zinc, or their alloys, may be used, in 0.177, 0.20 or 0.22 calibre.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
          2. Slugs are not permitted<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

            Shooting Equipment and Accessories<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
              \n
            1. Bum bags <\/strong>and cushions<\/strong> are allowed to be used by all competitors<\/strong>, provided they are not higher than 6\u201d (15cm)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            2. All competitors<\/strong> may use a shooting mat<\/strong> to keep their clothes from getting dirty or wet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            3. Portable seats<\/strong>, which are 18\u201d<\/strong> (46cm)<\/strong> or less in height, are allowed in the Open<\/strong> and Hunter<\/strong> Divisions, provided that they do not have a backrest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            4. Portable seats<\/strong> will be allowed in the WFTF<\/strong> Division, provided they are not higher<\/strong> than 6\u201d (15cm)<\/strong> and do not have a backrest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            5. Portable seats may Not be used as a Support in Any Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            6. Straps or harnesses<\/strong>, that improve a shooter\u2019s position, will be allowed in only in the Open Division. (These will not be allowed in the WFTF or Hunter Divisions)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            7. Kneepads <\/strong>and elbow pads<\/strong> are allowed in the Open<\/strong> and WFTF<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            8. Kneepads and elbow pads with a maximum thickness of one inch (1.0\u201d) are allowed in the Hunter Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            9. Thigh rests<\/strong> are Only <\/strong>allowed in the Open <\/strong>Division. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
            10. Knee risers<\/strong> (separate <\/strong>and\/or adjustable<\/strong>)are allowed in the Open<\/strong> and WFTF<\/strong> Divisions, only. These will not <\/strong>be allowed in the Hunter<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            11. Traditional rifle slings<\/strong> will be allowed in all<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            12. Traditional rifle slings have two attachment points on an airgun.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            13. Single point rifle slings<\/strong> are allowed in the Open<\/strong> and WFTF<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            14. Single point rifle slings will not be allowed in the Hunter Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            15. Bi-pods, crossed sticks, and mono-pods will be allowed in the Open<\/strong> Division, only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            16. These will not be allowed in the WFTF<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            17. Mono-pods <\/strong>only, will be allowed in the Hunter<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            18. Match style Butt Hooks <\/strong>will be allowed in the Open<\/strong> and WFTF<\/strong> Divisions, only.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            19. Adjustable Butt Pads\/Plates<\/strong> and adjustable cheek pieces<\/strong> will be allowed in all Divisions, with some limitations outlined in the hunter division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            20. A butt hook<\/strong> will not <\/strong>be allowed in the Hunter<\/strong> Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            21. Rifle mounted; non electronic wind indicators are allowed in all Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            22. Handheld wind indicators<\/strong> are allowed in the Open<\/strong> Division but will not be allowed in the WFTF<\/strong> and Hunter<\/strong> Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            23. Separate sighting or range finding systems, will be allowed in the Open Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            24. These will not be allowed in the WFTF<\/strong> and Hunter <\/strong>Divisions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            25. All forms <\/strong>of clothing, hats, shoes, boots, <\/strong>and gloves<\/strong> are allowed for all competitors in the Open and WFTF<\/strong> Divisions, regardless of their style of shooting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            26. Shooting jackets and gloves will not <\/strong>be allowed in the Hunter <\/strong>Division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            27. Any item not listed in Sections A to K, above, will not be allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
            28. See Division Rules<\/strong> for any further allowances or restrictions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

              Targets<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                \n
              1. Silhouette-style targets, having a circular hit zone through the face plate that the pellet must pass through, consequently striking the trip paddle with sufficient energy to cause the target to fall, will be used.
                1. Targets will be re-settable from the firing point and may not have any markings that simulate a hit-zone. <\/li><\/ol>\n
                    \n
                  1. Forced position lanes must be clearly marked at the firing line.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  2. Targets should not be closer than 10 yards, nor should they be further away than 55 yards, from the firing point.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  3. The Match Director should ensure that all shooting lanes and physical limits of the firing points are clearly defined.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  4. A clear and unobstructed view of the hit zone must be afforded to all competitors from the shooting position for that target.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  5. Shooters may reset their own targets once the scorer gives them permission.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                  6. Maximum distances to targets will be set according to the following chart:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                    Scoring<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                      \n
                    1. Scoring will be done on the basis of 1 <\/strong>point for each \u201chit<\/strong>\u201d and 0 <\/strong>for each \u201cmiss<\/strong>\u201d.  A hit will be awarded when the target falls.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    2. Any movement of the kill zone paddle, which does not result<\/strong> in the target face plate falling<\/strong>, will be recorded as a \u201cmiss<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    3. For the Hunter<\/strong> Division<\/strong>, two (2) points will be scored for a knockdown, one (1) point for a hit on the target, and a zero (0) for a complete \u201cmiss\u201d of the target.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    4. A discharge into the ground, without first announcing<\/strong> one\u2019s intention to deliberately discharge the gun in such a fashion, shall be recorded as a \u201cmiss<\/strong>\u201d.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    5. If a gun discharges due to a malfunction <\/strong>of the gun, the shooter will complete <\/strong>the lane<\/strong>, but the incident <\/strong>will be recorded <\/strong>and reported to the match director, who will decide on how to score the lane.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                    6. A shot taken is defined by air going down the barrel.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                        Shooting Position<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                        \n
                      1. Any shooting position is allowed, but some lanes may be set up for a forced position, such as standing<\/strong>, kneeling<\/strong>, or prone<\/strong>. Bum bags<\/strong>, cushions<\/strong>, and shooting mats<\/strong> may be used to protect the shooters clothing from the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      2. Kneeling<\/strong> shall be defined as one knee and both feet in contact with the ground. The airgun will be supported by the shooter and by no other means, other than traditional rifle slings<\/strong> or single point rifle slings<\/strong>, which may be used according to Division rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      3. The leading hand supports the gun and may not be supported in any way. A bum bag<\/strong> or cushion<\/strong> may be used as a support for the kneeling leg and ankle and\/or to protect the knee from the ground.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      4. This is also a safety issue to protect the shooter\u2019s knee from stones or sharp objects that may be in the ground. A shooting mat<\/strong> may be used for the same purpose.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      5. Standing<\/strong> shall be defined as standing upright. The airgun will be supported by the shooter and by no other means, other than traditional rifle slings<\/strong> or single point rifle slings<\/strong>, which may be used according to Division rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      6. Prone <\/strong>shall be defined as the shooter lying on the ground. The airgun will be supported by the shooter and by no other means, other than traditional rifle slings<\/strong> or single point rifle slings<\/strong>, which may be used in accordance with Division rules.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      7. No support<\/strong> may be used from the ground <\/strong>to the shooter or rifle, unless allowed in the Division rules. The shooter may <\/strong>use a shooting<\/strong> mat <\/strong>to protect their clothing from getting dirty or wet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      8. If a shooter is unable to take a forced shooting<\/strong> position for any valid reason, the Match Director may allow the shots to be taken from any other forced position in lieu of requirement, or if unable to do so, from their normal shooting position, with no penalty given the shooter.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      9. When a shooter is not in a forced position, natural support may <\/strong>be gained <\/strong>from the course, such as resting on logs or branches at the shooting position, unless Division rules prohibit <\/strong>its use.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                      10. Forced position shots shall not <\/strong>account for more <\/strong>than 20%<\/sup><\/strong> of the course of fire.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                         Disputed Scores<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                          \n
                        1. Any challenge to a target, must be recorded on the score sheet, before leaving that lane.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                          Penalties<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                            \n
                          1. Disqualification from a match<\/strong> includes and is not limited to:<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          2. a deliberate <\/strong>infraction of the Shoot Rules<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          3. unsafe gun handling<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          4. unsafe practices<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          5. unsportsmanlike conduct<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                          6. or any form of cheating<\/strong>,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                            Target Sequence<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                              \n
                            1. The Match Director <\/strong>may designate <\/strong>a sequence <\/strong>for shooting targets, by number, shooting left to right, nearest to farthest, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                            2. If there are multiple targets on a lane, the shooter <\/strong>must declare <\/strong>the order <\/strong>in which he\/she is planning to shoot them, if there is no suggested order<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                            3. If it is not clear <\/strong>from the shooter\u2019s position which target is near, far, left, or right, the shooter must declare <\/strong>the shooting order <\/strong>they will use before beginning the shot sequence on the target they will engage first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                            4. Once order is understood, a target shot out <\/strong>of order <\/strong>will be recorded as a miss <\/strong>for the target that should have been shot.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                              Time Per Shot<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                                \n
                              1. The Match Director may impose <\/strong>a time limit <\/strong>per lane or per target before a regular match begins or if a match is being unduly held up by an individual or group of shooters.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                              2. Timers will be used at the CAFTA<\/strong> National Championship Match<\/strong>. Timing will be set at one (1) minute per shot in each lane plus one (1) minute preparation time. Time will run concurrently.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                              3. Timing <\/strong>will start <\/strong>when the shooter enters the shooting area as specified <\/strong>by the Match Director<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                              4. Shots not executed<\/strong> within the time limit <\/strong>will be recorded as misses<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                                Tied Scores<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n
                                  \n
                                1. In the event of two or more shooters tying for an award, a shoot-off <\/strong>or other tie-breaking system will take place as decided <\/strong>by the Match Director<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                                  1. Any matter, not covered by these rules, will be the decision of the Match Director<\/strong>, and that decision will be final<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

                                                1. Any airgun design<\/strong>, with any sight<\/strong>, but with optics subject to restrictions in sub-section<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                                                2. Match airguns <\/strong>may be used and must have all adjustable parts set as prescribed in section F.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                                                3. Seats, bum bags, <\/strong>or cushions <\/strong>will not <\/strong>be used, as a rest<\/strong>, to support <\/strong>the rifle.  Natural support<\/strong> may be used if within the shooting area.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                                                4. Optical sights<\/strong> will not be set higher than 16<\/strong>times<\/strong> magnification. Adjusting <\/strong>the turrets <\/strong>may not <\/strong>be done once the match has begun and focusing <\/strong>is only <\/strong>allowed to obtain a sharp image<\/strong>.\n
                                                    \n

                                                          5. Straps<\/strong> and harnesses<\/strong> that improve the shooter\u2019s position will not <\/strong>be allowed<\/strong>. <\/li>\n\n\n\n
                                                          6. Separate sighting or range finders systems will not be allowed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
                                                          7. Monopods <\/strong>are allowed provided they are not attached<\/strong> to the rifle in any way nor will they be driven into the ground.
                                                            1. They will not have a surface that touches the gun larger than 2\u201d by 3\u201d<\/strong> on the top when looking straight down<\/strong>, to rest the rifle on.<\/li><\/ol>
                                                              1. Only one flat<\/strong> surface or two flat <\/strong>surfaces that form a \u201cV\u201d may<\/strong> be used.<\/li><\/ol>
                                                                1. The monopod or stock will not <\/strong>have any additional attachments <\/strong>or modifications <\/strong>to it that form fit the monopod to the gun and give lateral or longitudinal support to the rifle, as if it was sitting on a bench or in a fitted notch or channel. <\/li><\/ol>\n
                                                                    \n

                                                                    <\/a><\/a>World Championship Match<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

                                                                    Should CAFTA apply to the WFTF to host a World Championship match, the WFTF Core Rules will be used as the Shoot Rules for the Championship, augmented by CAFTA rules that are not in conflict with the Core Rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                                                    World Safety rules will apply unless they conflict with the Hosting Club, in which case, the Hosting Clubs\u2019 safety rules will take priority overall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                                                    Airguns will follow the guidelines of the WFTF with the power to not exceed 12-foot pounds energy at the muzzle, with pellets that the competitor shoots in the match.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

                                                                    Matters that are not covered in the Core Rules will be covered by CAFTA rules, and for those matters not covered in all rules, the match Director\u2019s decision will be final.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
