HAHA April 12, 2025 Match Report

HAHA WoodPecker

by Rob W, Match Director

Wow, what a great turnout for the first match of the 2025 season.

Thank you to everyone who came out and made this a great day of Field Target shooting! We had an unprecedented 14 first time shooters! Many of the first timers joined in with the regulars to get the course set up and stayed to help tear it all down – many hands made the tear down one of the fastest that I have ever seen.

Our usual Match Director was not able to make it, but he shared his plan for this first match of the season to have shorter yardages than a typical match. Sorry Bob, I could not resist adding a few long-distance shots and a sprinkling of smaller hit zones.

The day started a bit cool and warmed up just in time for us all to go home!

In spite of the cool weather, we had a record turnout for the first match of the season with 30 shooters participating. The big story though is that of those 30 shooters – 14 were first timers! It was awesome to see that many new shooters come out to try Airgun Field Target. Of course, with that many new shooters, we leaned heavily on our regular shooters to coach all the new folks.
A HUGE THANK YOU to all our regulars who made the new folks feel welcome.

Thank you to our Course Marshals – Ted, Marc, and Jeff. We got though the whole match with only 1 stoppage to repair a target that had pulled out of the wet ground.

Since we set up a fairly short course with a lot of full-sized hit zones, we wondered how many shooters would be able to fight off the wobbles and knock them all down…. Several came close, but only Rob G turned in a perfect score going 60 for 60. Dennis was right behind with only 1 miss and Richard let 3 get away. In Hunter Division, Tony and Tom continued their regular duel for the top with Tony making 114/120 points and Tom just 2 points behind.

A few other notable mentions were Tracy who thought that her first ever FT match was not enough of a challenge, so she did it using open sights, Hudson who at 10 years old was handling that TX200HC like a pro and knocking down targets, and we had 3 shooters using sub-500 rifles.

Thank you to the HAHA club and members for making the range and facilities available.
