The 2025 season at Port Colborne has begun!
The weather was threatening but the rain held off. The wind was strong, but clearly manageable based on some of the great scores! Thank you to everyone who braved the iffy forecast to make this a fun day. We had 22 shooters come out including 3 first timers at Port – welcome Arpan, Dave, and Peter! I hope that you enjoyed the day and look forward to seeing you regularly.
Thank you as always to those who helped to setup and tear down the course and the sight in range, and to our Marshals for the day, Ted, Marc, and Bob. Thanks also to our regular bushwhackers Lanny and Dennis for doing the heavy work and prepping the course earlier in the week!
There was a great example of the willingness of FT shooters to help each other out. Kevin’s gun packed it in during sight-in and his shooting partner for the day (Brian) tried to help him get it fixed. When that failed, Brian provided a loaner gun for Kevin to use. Unfortunately, Brian had to leave before the match ended – here Marc stepped in and had Kevin join him using his gun. Thank you very much to Brian and Marc for helping out a fellow shooter!
I hedged a bit for the expected wind, so the course was set up a bit shorter than usual. Even though we were in the forest, there was a fair bit of movement especially for the lower powered guns. The wind did not seem to bother some people though; Richard only left 4 targets standing in the Modified Division, and Chris H and Lanny both only left 7. Also, in Modified, Ashley showed that he is really getting along with his new scope as he zoomed up the leader board and came in just one shot behind the guy that brought him into FT last year.
In Hunter Division, Tom was in his usual spot at the top of the list and still made 103/120 in spite of the wind. Also in Hunter, in his first match at Port Colborne (and his second match ever!!), David D posted an awesome 94. Newbie Peter S also had a solid day in his debut at Port with an 80. Arpan was also in his first match at Port, and he pushed his sub-500 springer through the wind to post a solid score.
In Open Division, Ted and Geoff both had solid days – Ted is also liking his new scope!
The WFTF tag-team with their sub-12 FPE guns also turned in great scores as they tuned up their wind game in preparation for another world championship this fall.
